Big Changes Coming to Option Expirations This Week

For the longest time, option expirations only happened on Fridays. However, a big change is happening to them that some anticipate could reshape the options trading landscape.

Starting tomorrow, option contracts will now feature expirations on Mondays and Wednesdays.

For now, they’ll be added to a select group of stocks that includes the Magnificent seven, and a select few other high-liquidity names:

  • Alphabet (GOOGL)
  • Amazon (AMZN)
  • Apple (AAPL)
  • Meta (META)
  • Microsoft (MSFT)
  • Nvidia (NVDA)
  • Tesla (TSLA)
  • Broadcom (AVGO)
  • Financial Sector SPDR (XLF)

Upon hearing this groundbreaking news, Scott Bauer recorded an impromptu video of these new option expiration rules that provides a detailed breakdown of all the information traders need to know.

Scott’s analysis breaks down:

  • The impacts these additional option contract expirations could have on liquidity
  • Why multiple option contract expirations are crucial for 0DTE (zero-days-to-expiration) options
  • The timing of this rule and upcoming earnings reports from Mag-7 stocks in the coming days
  • What traders could expect market volatility to look like with multiple option expiration contracts every week
  • How new contract expirations could help traders manage time decay and short-term market variables
